So, I do kinda wish there was some sort of state licensing on personal trainers because it would add something to the certification. There are so many certifications that don’t require much so it is important if you are a BUYER of personal trainer to understand before you buy. There are only a handful of certifications that are BOARD certified. These require extra things in order to have them (such as standardized controlled testing, continuing education, cpr and aed training, etc)
Do you actually want the cheapest trainer that may or may not have CPR training if you need it? Before you answer that, consider this. I have only had a couple of my clients who have had issues while training, usually sugar related but I have had MANY people who are just using the gym have issues while I have been there. Some just require a sit down and a drink, but others require an ambulance. So really let that sink in. Your trainer should of course be trained but so should ALL TRAINERS. You may not be with a trainer at the moment but when you need it, you are going to be happy that trained people are working at the gym you use.
So look up what kind of certification your trainer has and go to the website for that certification to “credential check” them. It is your money, get the BEST 🙂
