Hi – I am Dave Hansey and here is my story and my credentials and education to help you to achieve your fitness goals.
I have 15 Years Military Service Training Marines, Soldiers and Navy for Fitness/Combat. Don’t let that scare you into thinking I am just about hardcore training. I am a professional board certified trainer and I use my experience to find the correct training program for every individual. That is why I have clients who are 86 years old who are working on balance. It is also why parents trust me to train their teenagers for sports. Nobody drops off their 12 year old for anything that they don’t trust.
I am part of the Personal Training Department at One Life Fitness Chapel Hill in Douglasville Georgia (Formerly Gold’s Gym Chapel Hill 2004-2019) and that gym is where I train exclusively.
SPORTS TRAINING :
I am a Performance Enhancement Specialist (NASM-PES) and Corrective Exercise Specialist (NASM-CES) The NASM-PES is THE CERTIFICATION for performance sports. You will find these initials after trainers for the Phoenix Suns, Atlanta Braves and many more. So for sports training, you want to ensure you are training with someone who knows more than just how to play the sport but knows how to make your body perform and train to get better at a sport using proven scientific methods. I have always been athletic and a runner. I have run 9 marathons (26.2 miles) and three ultramarathons (2 being 36 miles and one being 56 miles) in addition to many other relays, 10K, obstacle courses, etc. And often when you are an athlete, some of those sports and hobbies can cause injuries and that is where the NASM-CES is such an important certification. It can help you with getting back to normal after an injury but it is also for improving how you do things so you can prevent injury.
DIET/NUTRITION:
There are many people going around calling themselves “nutritionists”. Ask for a credential and I think you will find most do not have one. A eating plan that works is one that is custom for you but also one that follows scientific guidelines backed by decades of government research by the USDA.
WEIGHT LOSS:
How do these help you with weight loss? Well to be perfectly honest, weight loss is mostly about what YOU put in your mouth and what activity you do so you have to change both of those habits but you don’t have to feel alone in that journey because it is daunting. I have the skills and knowledge to guide you and give you advice on how to work toward your weight loss goal and for women, there are additional factors such as aging and hormonal changes that can make a weight loss journey even harder and I have the education and experience to help you understand those challenges and deal with them to get sustained weight loss.
REHAB/CORRECTIVE:
I have extensive experience training people with a wide variety of health and medical issues. Some examples of these are brain injury, MS, Spinal Cord Injury, Cardiac and Pacemaker Rehab, Diabetes, Hypertension, Hip Replacement and several others. Some of the additional certifications for these are listed below. I am also certified in Goniometric Assessment (the assessment of joint range of motion and muscle length, correlating them to movement dysfunction).
SAFETY:
Board Certification allows me to have the knowledge and skill set to train you safely and effectively but sometimes in a gym environment, there are additional risks and I have seen people who are just working out and not training with a trainer who just collapse on the floor and it is terrifying. That is why I require a medical form in order to train with me and it is also why I also have training in CPR. I am CPR/AED certified by ASHI (American Safety and Health Institute).
SPINAL FITNESS:
I am trained by MED-X on the Spinal Fitness System and I have been training people on it since 2004. It is a specialized set of equipment for back health that incorporates strength and stretching while allowing you to gain in very small increments for safety and stability.
PUBLICATIONS:
One of the things I really enjoy about my career is being able to inform and educate. I have had the opportunity to do this in several formats and publications including The Chapel Hill News and Views and Atlanta Tennis Magazine. I also have written a book to help other personal trainers start and grow their business called Getting Started with Your Personal Training Business.
