Healthy Dinners — the battle when you get home from work

So I talk to a lot of people about eating healthy and I know it can be a struggle.    Here is a little secret that can make it easier:

SHOP BETTER!!

If you don’t have a plan and the ingredients to make a healthy dinner, you have already set yourself up for failure.   Ok, so I know a lot of people who love to prep meals days in advance.  Personally, I don’t mind leftovers but the whole idea of a week’s worth of leftovers in the fridge and that is what I get to pick from isn’t my thing.   But what I do admire about people who do this is that they have found A PLAN THAT WORKS FOR THEM.

You need to find A PLAN THAT WORKS for YOU!!

In his AWESOME book, Tim Ferliss suggests we eat the same handful of meals over and over and then he points out something PROFOUND.  We already do that.   You already have a set group of GO TO dinners that you cook.  Whether it be 5 or 10 or 20 — you are cooking the same dinners over and over — just think about it.

So the hard thing really about changing your eating habits is CHANGING those dinners.   So start with a couple of new ones this week.    If this seems hard, aim for two healthy dinners.

One can be something fast and easy like Chicken and Salad.   Of course you can even buy the chicken pre-cooked from the deli if you are rushed.  But make the salad fantastic with lots of yummy things like Avocado and tomatoes and olives and green onions and celery — you need a variety to satisfy your taste buds.   Think of what great restaurant salads have on them and try to be like that (minus the fatty croutons and cheese) but if you are a cheese lover a bit of fat free feta cheese is going to add a lot of flavor for very little calories.     My son will comment if it is a GREAT SALAD or a “miss _____” salad.  I won’t name names but he has had a few lame salads even though he is young so even he wants it to be fresh and interesting.

To do this well, YOU HAVE TO SHOP WELL.    Take a few minutes today to hit the grocery store and buy a couple of avocados and tomatoes and some lettuce and feta and some olives (green or black whatever you like) and some green onion and a red pepper and a red onion.   All of these things are AMAZING in salads.
