So I thought I would write a little bit about cancels and no shows. When you make an appointment with anyone (hairdresser, dentist, doctor, personal trainer, etc), it is a commitment that person is making to you to be available for you at that time that you have agreed on. When you decide to not show up, you are not only breaking that commitment but you are making it impossible for that person to fill that spot with someone else. For a lot of these appointment based jobs, time is money.
I am not referring to emergencies. I have had clients who have had HORRIBLE emergencies and I mean horrible. And yet somehow on their way to deal with these things, they call. Shocking actually. The people I am referring to are the ones who CHOOSE not to show up or choose to sleep in. Now if you got home late from work the night before or you stayed late for the game, you have the choice to suck it up and show up or to call and cancel. Not showing up causes concern — did you get into an accident on the way here? I actually had a client who did — and guess what — he called.
Often it is just that you are afraid of the conversation that you don’t want to — so you avoid it altogether.
This is not meant to be a scolding, it is simply a comment to those who do this that they should consider whether they are doing this because they are avoiding their commitments. Exactly how can you expect to get in shape and lose weight if you cannot even show up when you say you are going to??
