So as I have been on a Whole 30 round and because I am in the gym training most days, I get a lot of people talking to me about weight loss and lifting and health and all kinds of health related things. First, I don’t care who you are, what your goals are, how fit you are, how skinny or fat you are — HEALTH IS IT — if you don’t have it, you will want it and it is the most elusive thing if you don’t have it. My father got rheumatic fever as a child and it caused him terrible heart damage. He didn’t smoke and drink and eat his way to heart disease like a lot of people. He caught a fever when he was a child and it destroyed his heart health. And he struggled with it his whole life literally until the day he died.
I am telling you this because if you are living to be thin or hot or ripped or have super big biceps, good for you to have a goal. BUT, if that superficial (and yes all of those are superficial, you know this) ever takes a more important role than health, then you are a fool.
I have training clients who are well into their 80s who live great full content lives because they prioritize their health. Sometimes it is easy for me to forget that they are as old as they are because they don’t seem old. And then I see people in my everyday life who are in much worse states and a lot of the time it is from something they cannot control, like a disease or cancer, but I bet they would trade you in a heartbeat for your healthy life where you obsess over superficial beauty things like bigger arms.
Sorry if this seems a bit harsh but you know it is true. There really isn’t anything special about having huge arms or a high bottom, be sure you are working on your health at some point during your week too so when you are 70 or 80, your commitment to health has you living a great life 🙂
